Your Itinerary

  • Day 01 Hanoi’s foodie delights

    Card image

Xin chào and welcome to Hanoi. A mixing pot of French and Chinese influences, with ornate temples and colourful markets lining the streets, this eclectic city offers some excellent opportunities for cultured adventures. Arrive at your hotel and meet your fellow travellers and guide, before heading out together for a safari around the city’s markets. Feast your way through Hanoi’s streets with your group, down a maze of hidden alleys and bustling stalls. Then pay a visit to Bia Hoi corner, ‘beer corner’, to see the night in.

  • Day 02 Old Quarter wanders

    Card image

Start your first full day in Vietnam with a wander around Hanoi’s beguiling Old Quarter. Navigate the hustle of narrow streets, packed with family-run cafés and stores selling everything from artwork to books and hand-embroidered Ao Dais. The rest of the afternoon is yours to spend at leisure. As evening falls, head out for a rice wine tasting with local ceramic artists, with the bars of Hanoi at your disposal.

  • Day 03 Hike through Pu Luong Nature Reserve

    Card image

Leave behind the electric chaos of Hanoi, as you make your way to Pu Luong Nature Reserve with its misty hillsides and shimmering rice paddies. Whilst similar to the landscape of Sa Pa with its rolling green hills, Pu Luong is a region of lesser-known beauty, allowing you to glimpse another side to Vietnam that many tourists don’t get to see. Upon arrival, acclimatise to your new surroundings with a long hike through fields of rice, bamboo forests and waterfalls – your perfect introduction. Then, as evening falls, you’ll have a few hours to relax back at your hotel in the village, before heading out for dinner at a nearby restaurant.

  • Day 04 Morning hike in the Pu Luong hills

    Card image

Wake up to serene views of the rice paddies and forested hills, before setting out for a morning hike. Take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures, weaving through the jungle and following the river through the rice fields. Lunch will be served back at the lodge, then you’ll catch your transfer back to Hanoi – ready for tomorrow’s adventure to Halong Bay.

  • Day 05 Kayaking and karaoke on Halong Bay

    Card image

This morning, settle into a four-hour drive to Halong Bay, an archipelago of islands and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arriving at noon, hop straight onto an Indochina junk boat as you sail around a labyrinth of 2,000 islands. After lunch onboard with your fellow travellers, explore the bay by kayak, paddling between ancient limestone karsts, hidden grottoes and secluded lagoons. Enjoy a sunset dinner with your group, before turning your hand to squid fishing (season dependent). As darkness falls, celebrate this unique experience with a night of karaoke (talent optional) and dancing (same applies).

  • Day 06 Hello, Hoi An

    Card image

After a peaceful night’s sleep (depending on how wild the karaoke was), arise to a sunrise breakfast with breathtaking views of the bay. Immerse yourself in an onboard tai chi class, with majestic limestone cliffs rising around you. Explore the islands a little more, before making your way back to Hanoi. Having arrived in the capital, hop straight onto a 90-minute flight that will take you onto your next destination: Hoi An. This delightful riverside town and former trading port is renowned for its fine selection of handmade silk, vibrant café culture and colourful architecture.

  • Day 07 Cook up a Vietnamese feast

    Card image

Spend your first morning in Hoi An wandering through the history-rich streets of the Old Town. From the Chua Ong Pagoda to the Jinshang Temple (dedicated to the goddess of the sea and protector of sailors), cultural adventures await at every corner. In the afternoon, you’ll learn how to cook local recipes under the guidance of professional chefs working in the town. Uncover secret ingredients and family recipes as you prepare three delicious dishes from scratch. Your creations will form part of an epic five-course dinner, which you can relish in true style after all your hard work.

  • Day 08 Exploring beautiful Hoi An

    Card image

Take today off to do exactly as you please. With its lantern-lined streets and friendly locals, Hoi An is a lovely place to amble around. The tailors here are among the best in the world; why not get beautiful local fabrics made into made-to-measure outfits? In the afternoon, head to the airport and catch your flight to Ho Chi Minh. Once you’ve arrived and checked in to your hotel, you’ll have a guided tour of this historic and bustling centre.

  • Day 09 Cu Chi Tunnels and sunset cocktails

    Card image

This morning, come face to face with Vietnam’s war legacy with a visit to Cu Chi Tunnels. Here, you’ll learn how guerilla soldiers lived during the infamous war, weaving through a subterranean labyrinth of tunnels. Back in Ho Chi Minh, you’ll dive straight into the streets on a Vespa sightseeing tour. Passing Ho Chi Minh’s most iconic sights, from Bình Tây Market to the Reunification Palace, make a series of stops to sample the street food, before returning to your hotel for an afternoon dip in the pool.

  • Day 10 A cyclo tour of Phnom Penh

    Card image

It’s time to leave Vietnam behind you – you’re onto Cambodia. Catch a short flight over to Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s vibrant capital sitting at the confluence of the Mekong and the Tonlé Sap. Phnom Penh boasts a characteristic blend of traditional Southeast Asian architecture and colonial influence – best experienced on a cyclo tour through the city’s French Quarter. This evening will see you make your way to the river, where you’ll enjoy sundowners with your group.

  • Day 11 Cambodia, old and new

    Card image

Today, you’ll confront Cambodia’s tragic past with a guided walk around the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. Followed by a visit to the infamous Killing Fields, encounter the legacy of 20th century despotism – a tragic but essential step to understanding Cambodia as it is today. Spend the rest of the afternoon ambling through the bustling stalls of Toul Tom Poung Market, selling everything from local handicrafts to street food. This evening, head down to the harbour, where you’ll set off into the horizon on a sunset cruise: the perfect way to round off your day.

  • Day 12 Majestic Angkor Wat

    Card image

Hop on a one-hour flight this morning, taking you to the ancient town of Siem Reap: the gateway to Angkor Wat. Dating back to the 12th century, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is not only a temple complex but also the remnants of a thriving empire city, once home to rice fields, gilded palaces, ponds and houses. Find your bearings with a walking tour around your new city, before spending the rest of your evening relaxing at the hotel.

  • Day 13 Sunrise temples and a Khmer feast

    Card image

Wake up early today to catch sunrise over Angkor Wat, whose temples were built according to ancient principles following the rhythms of the sun (like Stonehenge and the Mayan pyramids). Spend the rest of the day exploring the temples of the main ruins, from multi-faced Bayon to the jungle-covered Ta Prohm. Come evening, head back into town to enjoy a Khmer feast at a hospitality-training organisation providing opportunities for former street children.

  • Day 14 Heading home - or onto Thailand?

    Card image

Enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel, then make your own way onto your next destination. If Southeast Asia has got you hooked, why not extend your adventure with our rock-climbing trip to South Thailand? The white beaches of Krabi are calling you…
